Propaganda Project
The word propaganda is defined as misleading information used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view. The Walt Disney Company produced films using animated characters to spread propaganda and educate Americans about their enemies. Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse were not just about entertainment. Walt Disney’s intentions were purely wholesome because of his love for his family, company, and country. During World War II, Disney made films for the military and government. The government reached to Walt Disney more than any other studios. The Disney employees were devoted to the production of training and propaganda films for the government. Donald Duck starred in “The New Spirit” and it was shown in thousands of movie theaters and even earned an Academy Award nomination. The Disney studio also created training films for the American military. The film “Der Fuehrer’s Face” made fun of the Nazis and again starred Donald Duck. His films “Victoiry Through Air Power” and “Education for Death” were supposed to increase public support for the war effort. Walt Disney never meant to offend anyone by producing these films and shorts. People of all ages still love Disney and all that they do to make children and adults smile each and everyday. I am proud to say that I have been a Disney fan for my whole life and it continues to make me smile everyday. They always seem to know how to catch an audience and make all kinds of different films. They know how to reach every emotion in everyone and that is what makes Disney amazing.
